What is Bal-A-Vis-X?
Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of some 300 exercises to integrate the nervous system. Most of these mind-body integration exercises are done with sand-filled bags and/or racquetballs, often while standing on a balance board. YogaMoves classes purposefully begin with these fun and unique exercises.
The Bal-A-Vis-X eXercises require full-body/bi-lateral coordination, eye tracking, focused attention, and visual and auditory discrimination. While doing ball and bag eXercises, participants experience multitudes of mid-line crossings which require the 3 dimensions of the brain (left/right, back/front, upper/lower) to work together.
The rhythms created during BAVX are the natural outcome of proper technique which requires physical movements in explicitly specific, sequenced and predictable ways. This creates challenge for the brain and the brain thrives on challenge!
Executed at a pace that naturally demands slow breathing and mindfulness, the result of incorporating this method into class is a mind-body integration that opens neural-pathways to allow information to flow, enabling a more skillful YogaMoves movement practice.
